I used to play the Clarinet, but I quit. I found it to be too difficult.

Charion..I envy you. I want to learn how to play drums SO bad, but we don't have enough money to buy a set. =/ Blah. I do have a guitar though. It's acoustic, but I'ma learn to play that, then switch over to bass. If I have to play a guitar, it's gonna be a bass. :3 (When I look at bass, I want to think it's base, not bass. But..that's for a drumset. >__> -Lights a drum set on fire.- BUUUUURRRN.)

I play the clarinet and piano. But I'd really like to play an instrument with strings, like a violin or something.

My brother wanted to play the Violin, but he couldn't find a teacher. Oh well. The band teacher only teaches how to play Trumpets, Saxaphones, Clarinets, Flutes, Drums, etc. The normal instruments.

Yeah, finding a teacher is sometimes very difficult. Where I live, I doubt I'd be able to find a clarinet teacher if I tried, so I just play on my own. And by the way, not a single music shop sells clarinet reeds. x_X I'm glad I bought a box of them when I had the chance...

My cousin plays the violin. o_o I tried voilin once, too..but it sounded like a horse that was being stabbed in the back was stomping on a cat's tail.

Electron: What are the reeds for? My friend played clarinet, but I never really asked. Is it there just so a pretty sound will come out of it? (You know, like how you have to make an elephant sound to play the trumpet right, ect.)

It's a piece of wood that vibrates when you blow over it correctly. In order to produce a sound, the air flowng through the instrument must have a specific form and local variances in pressure. So basically, it controls how air flows.

I see. o.0 So..how do you control the reed? Won't you need to change its position a bit to change airflow..or is all of tha done by the levers and such on the side of the clarinet?

Nope. I'm not an expert, so I'm gonna be vague about this ;)

When you blow too lightly, it stays open and you get no sound at all. When you blow too hard, it closes and stays closed and you produce a "squeak". The trick is not to blow too softly, and not too hard. Then you get a pleasant note.

I made a quick image to explain this better:

So, the reed is controlled by your breath. (needs a bit of practice to get it right but you get the hang of it soon.)

When I was younger I used to play the flute (at age four) and the piano (at age five), but when I was nine my mom got tired of taking me to the classes. And yeah. That's pretty much about it.

o.O Oh yeah, back on sixth grade I had to play the guitar. ~_~

I used to play violin, but then I almost blacked out from having the stress of holding the violin on my back.

Aiyiyi, I need to be more fit.
