Infernape, the flaming monkey. Its flame burns its entire life. Infernape is also the smallest starter ever made.
Sets
The Mixed Attacker
Infernape @ Life Orb
Hasty / Naive nature
EVs: 252 SpA / 232 Spd / 24 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Flamethrower
- Grass Knot
- Close Combat
Infernapes best set is a mixed one, dubbed MixApe by many people. Nasty Plot is a way to lure in the special wall of your opponent and smack it with Close Combat. Flamethrower and Grass Knot let you deal with bulky waters, Steels etc. The speed allows you to outspeed neutral Sceptile and Alakazam. Hidden Power [ Ice ] is an option over Close Combat, which lets you hit Dragons hard. Change the nature to Timid if you do this though.
Choice Bander
Infernape @ Choice Band
Jolly nature
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 6 HP
- Flare Blitz
- Close Combat
- U-Turn / Stone Edge / Thunderpunch
- U-Turn / Stone Edge / Thunderpunch
Although most Infernapes you'll encounter are mixed, Choice Band Infernape can be a pain to deal with. A STAB Flare Blitz or Close Combat will hurt, whether you resist it or not. Stone Edge covers some Flying Types while Thunderpunch has the added benefit of hitting bulky waters, who will switch in once your opponent finds out your all physical. U-Turn is a nice move for scouting early game and can help you weaken things a bit. You could also go with Swords Dance in one of the last 2 slots and give it a Life Orb as item.
My opinion:
Infernape has all the generic aspects of a Fire pokémon. Above average Attack, good Speed and low defenses. But don't feel over-confident when countering this pokémon, as it'll smack you when you predict wrong.
