View Full Version : The importance of the Special Wall

Everybody knows it: the terror named Blissey. The fat, pink egg who walls every special attacker like nothing. But D/P has given special attackers some new toys to play with, most notably Nasty Plot and Choice Specs. The special attackers are stronger than ever..

But still.. Blissey remains the best special wall. Yet again, every special sweeper knows he has to wait till the pink egg has been eliminated in order to sweep. Where other special walls from Advance are losing their usefulness and reliability.. Blissey becomes even more sacred.

Right now, you're probably asking yourself the following: 'What a crap! Where the *** is this topic about?' You're right about that. The question I'd like to ask is: Now special walling is harder than ever, and relies more on resistances, how are you planning to not let your team get destroyed by a special sweeper?

Cant say I have thought about it much at all. But I did notice that in my Battle Tower team there is a big flaw taht I cant seem to beat this girl with a Magneton but it probably isnt specced as a Special Sweeper but it sure has hell seems like it. So does this mean SkarmBliss is obsolete?

Well, the combo can still be very effective. But where Blissey obviously is *the* best special wall, Skarmory isn't the superior physical wall anymore as it was in Advance. Not only special walling has become more difficult..

I normally use 3 defensive pokemon in my D/P teams. Just to keep things like Azelf, Garchomp, Salamence etc at a safe distance.

"the best" doesn't mean "the only one"
Since many teams are prepared to defeat Blissey/Cresselia, using a weaker special wall that everyone is unprepared for seems more interesting for me. Grass Knot and Nasty Plot really made special walling harder, not to mention Choice Specs. Still, there're things that can wall nicely. not as effective as the big Bliss, but like I said before, it's not the only special wall.

I use a lot of things. Bronzong and Forretress are useful for the resists, and Shedinja has always been a favorite. Zapdos, Gardevoir, even Skarmory (well, Specs users) are pretty good at walling some SAttkers.

well, since i use donphan a lot because of its versality, regice is a good option for me. max HP and SP.DEF, ResTalk and almost immune for ice attacks is cool.

regice of course has problems with fire, so specsmence is a big problem for me.
