Well, i'm trying something for my forum. I'm trying to figure out what attracts people to forums. So heres the question....

What attracts you to a forum? Like modifications, forum design....anything.

Most of the time, the topics and members. Sometimes their designs but a great forum doesn't need such an elaborate design.

I usually get atracted by it by either the category or what the thread is about

Topic, content, and members.

If I see a decent Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, Zelda or Pokemon forum with a lot of users (or one that a friend makes), then I'd probably join it, as long as it doesn't focus on only one thing (like Smogon and competitiveness) and doesn't have a gajillion noobs (not that SPPf has that many, but it's getting there).

The theme of the forum; I just don't join any forum I see. It has to be something I know about.
Activity; I don't want to join a forum where it gets one post a week.
The forum itself; does it look nice to be there? Is it enjoyable? What kind of software? Features? Do I know anywhere there? ect.

Firstly, I would see what the forum is about. If it's nothing that I'm interested in; I probably wouldn't even bother joining or looking at it.

Though, if I see a forum that catches my interest and I've never seen before, the first thing I do is look at the statistics on the bottom. Which would be how many posts there are, how many members the board has, etc. If it's about the right amount for my taste, then I would consider registering and posting for a bit to see what the community is like. If there's always something interesting to post in, I would most likely stay.

I don't know if this matters to other people or not, but seeing people online is a big plus. If I usually see people that are logged in, it tells me that it's members must think it's a fun place to be in.

These days I consider activity on the forum and how the members communicate.
