I once thought that Mewtwo was a strong and powerful Pokemon but in the last few years I just realized its just another legendary. What are your thoughts?

Mewtwo is another legendary, but I think there are a few stronger ones out there (especially from the 4th gen of Pokémon). Of course, there's a bunch weaker than Mewtwo too.
Overall, it's stronger than most, but not the strongest. ;p

Almost - Arseus is overall stronger, though while Mewtwo is a sweeper (from both ends), Arseus is mostly a wildcard which is kinda cool I guess.

Mewtwo is the strongest. He has the highest Sp. Attack, and when you have that you win. Psychic, recover, and one of his other TM learnable moves that he has plenty of. Though I'm sure a dark legendary would beat him. *nudgenintendo*

If Mewtwo sucks, then no one has any decent stats. Really, he takes the cake.

Mewtwo is strong, but there are stronger pokemon. Aruseus is obviously stronger ;P
I think even Arseus would crumble to Mewtwo, if Mewtwo had 2 or 3 Schemes BPed to it from Mew. And maybe a Sub.
Yeah, Mewtwo is awesome. He's one of my favorite Pokemon, but I don't think he's the strongest, at least not anymore.

Well, during the First Gen gaming, yes, he was the strongest, but as time passes by, other Pokemon would take his place, so I don't think he's the strongest anymore... =/

For the first two generations, yes
I don't think anything in Jhoto can match it's supposed power.
3rd Gen(Hoenn) well, supposably Deoxys is supposed to make Mewtwo look tame, but whatever, then there are the "Titans" (Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquaza)
now with the 4th Gen(Sinnoh) forget about it, they're "Gods" :O
Strongest or not, Mewtwo was, is, and will most likely always will be my favourite pokemon
bleh...thats how I see it now

Diaruga is definately stronger, and Girdana, being a Ghost type, would completely destroy Mewtwo

@Chester
Sure, its a ghost type. But seeing as Psychic is still normally effective against ghosts, and theres a lack of usablely good ghost attacks, save shadow ball, the only advantage he has is about 30-40 base power more.
And I forgot about Kyogre. The invincible pokemon. Calm mind untill special defense is high, then you win.

From what I've heard, Arseus may be better.
I personally haven't had that much trouble taking down Mewtwo in battles (NB or not). Once you figure out it's moveset you can effectively wall it.

Nothing can compare to the awesomness of Mewtwo.
Except me.

And the baby
But really, Arseus is just an excuse to make up for all the bad legendaries that have been placed in the game. Too uber, and if it goes on NB...

what bad legendaries? To me, every generation seems to come out with better loking legendaries (if you mean statwise, then ok, whatever, I don't payattention to stats, cuae I no longer play competetivly)
A few things I had with the new Sinnoh legendaries, Parukia kinda reminded me of DBZ for some odd reason, I thought Aruseus was an Absol evo when I first saw it
But back on topic: Mewtwo may have been really stonrg "in it's day" It still is, but now there are some more powerful ones out there (I thinki I said that already)

Mew can learn every TM/HM in the game, but (I could be wrong on this one) Mew has the same stats as Mewtwo, at least back in the old days. But Mew is such a pain to get these days, outside of cheating devices and two events from Nintendo that I don't really count it in comparison. You just can't test it unless you do cheat or are one of the lucky few to get to a Nintendo event.
Mewtwo's stats fall on the same tier as Ho-Oh and Lugia. When placed in the right hands who know how to handle Mewtwo, it can be strong. But now there is Aruseus, who's base stats equal 720, and can be any type. There's your Dark legendary, if you so choose it to be. =/ So it can take down Mewtwo.
Just my views on it. I'm not that into competitive battling anymore, falling out after the second generation, so I'm not too up with the times.

IIRC, Mewtwo was the strongest in the first Generation. But when they had the 2nd and 3rd generation out, there were plenty of Pokemon that could take him out. I'm not real up to date with the 4th Generation Pokemon, but I could already imagine that there's plenty of Pokemon stronger than him.
Besides, it's not possible for him to be "the most powerful" anyways. Every Pokemon has a way of being defeated. So how can he be the strongest?

I believe that there are more Pokémon that are better than Mewtwo, as it is basically one of the most overused Pokémon out there, where it can easily be defeated by an Espeon with Bite. It is very true.

Well, when you look at what he can do on all of the Movies, and then I don't really know about the games, but he has always been extremely powerful, and with his abilities, I have no doubt that he is still the most powerful of all pokemon, and the most intelligent, in the first one he even made clones of himself.

Mewtwo is still one of the strongest but every pokemon has a weakness. For example darkrai. Once he gets mewtwo sleeping he's dead.

I dun think he's all that great anymore even if I still use him as a sweeper. Latios with Soul Dew is simply better. :D

Mewtwo was Kanto's best, and I'd say he beat Johto, but now that there is Aruseus it isn't #1 at all.

One word. Wobbuffet. It can always kill at least one Pokemon in a battle, which makes him the strongest.

I definitely don't think so. Aruseus would probably beat him, and he isn't even the strongest in the first generation, if you take Mew into play. After the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, then WOW! He's one of the weaker legendaries.

That's not necessarily true. If Mewtwo had Toxic and three other attacks that don't do damage, he would be able to beat it.

I don't know much about the metagame, but with Mewtwo's special attack, I would Calm Mind and use a special attack. Any extra space and I'd put in Recover. Not much room for Toxic or any status inflicting move in my opinion.
EDIT: And Wobbuffet can use Safeguard for any status inflicting move as well.
