Just because I can I'm going to post a new fan fiction of mine. :P Hope you enjoy it.
Prologue:
She was called Misty, named after the great water trainer of Cerulean who perished in the Great Flood of '23. She was a simple girl who lived a simple life in one of eastern villages. Her village was called Tenya after the great guardian of souls said to have helped in the creation of the world. She lived with her father because her mother had died shortly after she was born from the Shock Pox, a disease that prevented clotting and caused the victim to develop large boils on their skin that will eventually rupture and cause the person to bleed to death. Needless to say it was a nasty disease. Being so young when her mother fell ill, it was lucky that Misty hadn't caught it. Still, life without her mother was a hard one.
On the day of her tenth birthday, Misty wanted to visit Cerulean, the former home of the famous water trainer, and get a Pokemon from the gym. She would love the chance to go on a Pokemon journey but her father wouldn't allow it. He wanted her to remain in the village and become a farmer like himself. It was a hard life but it came with many rewards and it was far better than traveling. That was what her father always said. Misty didn't think this way though. She dreaded the idea of becoming a farmer and spending the rest of her life in Tenya. Pokemon training had kind of lost its appeal after the death of all those trainers ten years ago. It was still a very dangerous thing to do and there were more deaths reported each year but it was never as bad as the Trainer Massacre of '34. For all that, Misty still wanted to try her hand at training. Since she was old enough to understand what a trainer was she had wanted to be one. She had a natural gift with Pokemon and she wanted to use it for more than just settling the farm Pokemon.
In the third month of her tenth year she left the farm, taking nothing but her father's scorn with her. She doubted it would be the last time she saw him before she left but she hoped that if she moved quickly enough he wouldn't get the chance to stop her. Much as she liked the name Misty, she didn't want to use the name of a former trainer, no matter how great or famous they had been. There was also the fact that that name tied her to a father who loathed the idea of her becoming a trainer. When she registered at the gym for a Pokemon she used a name that she had fashioned for herself instead. Now the only thing left to do was wait for a Pokemon to be found for her. Things weren't done like the old days. You didn't walk into a lab and choose from three normal starter Pokemon. These days you registered at the town or city's gym and waited for a choice of Pokemon to be selected for you. If there was only one Pokemon at the time then that was the one you got. If the town or city you lived in didn't have a gym, you could register at a Pokemon Center.
Misty loved water Pokemon which seemed perfectly fitting to her. Cerulean gym had more water types than any other type so it was likely that there would be one in her selection. She wasn't sure which Pokemon she was going to get and she was very excited about it. She had one night to go over all the different options in her mind and that wasn't nearly enough with over a thousand species of Pokemon in the world and more being discovered each year. There was no knowing if the Pokemon in the choice list were even native to Kanto. The only thing she could do was wait and hope that the Pokemon on her list were species that she liked.
