I was wondering whether you're planning on upgrading to vBulletin 3.5.3 soon.
Is it a good idea? Whenever new software versions are released (for all companies, not just Jelsoft) it seems to bring a certain ammount of bugs. So would upgrading be a good idea or not?

From what it's been in the past, we'll probably just wake up one day to find a new vB version here.... As to when that'll be, who knows? And who'd want to spoil the nice surprise? ^^

Well, I actually planned to upgrade when I'll implement all the suggestions made in here: http://piforums.paulhq.com/showthread.php?t=1437
3.5.3 does not come with too many new features.
All I have noticed that there is Skype support and a very small style change in the adminCP.
Do you really want it that much or can you be patient?^^

When it comes to that, you still haven't allowed user titles to be customised via the user control panel. Is there any particular reason?

From what I know, some sort of abstraction of a security flaw is fixed in the new version as well :/

XD I probably wouldn't know the difference anyway.
Here's something from the vBulletin community forum:
All prior versions of vBulletin are vulnerable and we advise customers to upgrade or patch their vBulletin installations at their earliest convenience.
Makes me wonder whether they include cross-site scripting errors on purpose to keep licence-owners paying $30 a year to get the newer versions. :D

As far as I'm concerned, custom user titles are for Staff members. =/ Just as avvies from your comp are only for Staff at SPPF.
Wait, we shall not rush. . . patience is a virtue. :D
Me neither... XD
I think that way too.

I dont think we need to jump up and down over a .0.1 software revision, lol.

I personally don't want it to be that way :/ It's not fair IMO.
The only reason the titles aren't on for members is because of the old shop. ._.;
I agree with bgt -- there's no need to rush on a little upgrade.

I totally disagree. And here's the reason:
The reason why only staff at serebii.net forums are allowed to have custom avatars is because there is 8000 members. (Let's say everyone uploads a 1KB avatar = 8000KB instantly not counting those 8000 changing their avatars!!!)
From what I know, Joe of Serebii.net is balancing max. bandwith on the blade of a knife.
Secondly, I agree that staff members have to have some sort of privileges. But since becoming a staff member is something that many people don't endeavour to do, it ultimately means that only a handfull of people will be satisfied with their user titles, while the others will not. Concordantly, while 90% or more of any on line community consists of regular members, many will not become staff either because they won't be needed, or they don't have the time. This brings us back to the beginning. I suggest they be allowed for all, and I'm going to stick to that (at least until I see otherwise). Just think of another staff-only privilege, if you can't bear to be without.
And wouldn't running a title-changing "shop" be difficult and a waste of time?

As for myself, who cares about staff only priveledges, I'm only here to guide/moderate the community; I could care less if we had the same priveledges... I'm also a supporter of custom user titles, I mean, it doesn't use any extra bandwidth or anything, lol.

The shop being referred to is a forum hack where users could buy stuff like custom user titles for points they got from posting etc., and I think that is the best way to do it. The problem is that the hack is not available for this version of vB, so it got lost in the last upgrade. They say it's being developed though, so we're all waiting to get it back.
Bottom line, the current custom title situation is meant to be just temporary. It is taking too much time, though, and it looks by the end of February we'll do something about it even if the shop doesn't come out....

It's a hack? Well, it sounds fun! I hope they do write it for the newer versions too.
In that case, I'd prefer waiting. BTW, this is the first time I'm actually considering a hack excellent.
