Ok, first I'm not sure if this will work the same with IPB 1.0.3, since I've never installed that version. Ok, here is how to install IPB 2.0.4 and up.
First, download the files from IPB's client centre, remember to download the latest version. Next, create a mySQL Database and Username, preferably something you'll easily remember, then attach the Username to the Database.
Then you will have to upload the files, remember to upload all the files and folders, you don't need to upload the 'Upgrade' folder though, just letting you know.
Next CHMOD the following folder to 777: 'Skin Cache', after you will have to CHMOD the following files to 777: 'IPB_templates.php, conf_global.php and admin.php', make sure you make Conf_global.php writeable or it won't work.
Next put 'www.yoururlhere.com/install/index.php' in your address bar and follow the instruction's, remember to set the 'Safe-mode' setting.
Next all you have to do is delete the index.php file located in the INSTALL folder and your all set, have fun with your new IPB forum!
Oh, btw for the installation you'll need:
PHP: 4.0.1 or Higher.
Mysql: 4.2.3 or Higher.
12.5MB of space.
A Ftp program such as SmartFTP
Lastly do not under any circumstances edit the mySQL.php file you'll mess the whole forum up.
