Ok, first I'll explain what both of these are:
Ad-ware is kind of bug's that infect your computer everytime you go onto the internet. Ad-aware makes it easier for Hackers to get into your computer. They can corrupt and stop Norton Anti-virus from working correctly, (At least to my knowledge) finally, Ad-aware also makes it easier for Spy-ware to get on your computer and also a certain number of viruses which are usually Trojans. Want to know how to get rid of Ad-ware? Then go to www.lavasoft.com and download the new Version of Ad-ware SE. It comes in both a FREE version and a paid version, the paid version being more effective.

Now Onto Spy-ware:
Spy-ware is kind of a hacker's way into your system. Allowing them to View Cookies, get password's, and even watch what you're doing on the computer or through your Camera attached to your PC. Want to get rid of it?
Then go to Spy-Bot site (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html) and download it, I'll also editing the post soon to help with Mal-ware.

An addition:

Spyware and Adware are virtually obtained in the same way - Downloads. If you download a strange file then it will most likely have it. If you download something that looks harmless it may too.
Take the Messenger Plus virus for example. If you were it install the sponser program, you will receive a nasty virus with Spyware and other things on it. That is one that may seem harmless.

Hmm, so, i downloaded nothing for what the past week, and just today 8 Ad-ware appear on my computer and i do a scan everyday. Maybe spy-ware is VIA downloads but ad-aware sure isn't.

You can get it by browsing the internet with Internet Explorer and to a point, other browsers as well. :)

And virii and spyware/adware are completely different.

Yeah completely different i had the Bagle virus on my computer once. Sadly, Norton CANNOT in no way delete it, so i had to quarantine it. Spy-ware and Adware are very easy to delete, providing you have a good program for them.

Also you can pick it up through IM Clients. Have you gone to any obscure sites that you don't usually go to /

IM clients are safe for hte most part, unless you're doing file transfers.

Well that's kind of what I was getting at.

An AIM virus going around sends to everyone on your list is: "This picture never gets boring..." or something like that. I read it in PC User.

Yeah. That's a good point. But remember, young people use it and are unaware of these things.

As long as there are files on the internet there will always be viruses, it's just one of the downsides of the internet.

I recommend using Microsoft Antispyware (Beta 1) It's VERY good. ^^
