Similar to the one in the Pokemon RPG forum.
Building an RPG
First off, an RPG is a Roleplaying Game. Someone creates a story and allows people to join as characters to sort of act and play a part in the story.
In order to construct an RPG, you'll need to think out a good plot. A plot should be original, not something that we've all seen before (like a group of teenagers in highschool). A good plot should also have detail, you want to make the places and stories seem real.
You want you RPG to be successful so you'll want people to join. make it interesting. Go outside the box, be abstract. Put in all sorts of twists to keep your fans and players interested. Try something based off of your interests, like baseball, a story about a group of kids who'd like to play in the major leagues, but add your own spin to it.
Detail
Okay, you need to make us be able to see the places and characters through your words. Since you aren't using pictured, its imparative that you choose your words wisely and make sure that the reader doesn't get lost or confused. So you'll need to use proper spelling and grammar, and spell check. Don't do things like 'I'll c u l8er' When you can just say 'I'll see you later' or put 'c' in place of 'see'. Also, be considerate of those who are playing, while you may have a huge vocabulary, not everyone can understand things like
"Detrimental" "Actinic"or "Postulation" so don't use so many big words. We do have kids playing (not to say that some aren't smart enough to understand).
Inform us on what is happening and don't assume that we're psychic or super smart *coughexceptmecough*
Furthermore, RPGs aren't short, either, so don't give us one paragraph or two sentences and leave it at that. We're not asking for a novel, but at least a summary to inform us and give us a clear picture as to what is going on.
Getting People Interested
In order for an RPG to flourish, you'll need to get people to join, and how do you get them to join? Well, that all goes back to the plot and making it interesting. If you're not sure what to do, then research successful RPGs and see what their tactics and ideas were and what they are doing differently from you. Start with a small idea like: "An ancient battle against evil magic" then expand on that idea, adding things that will appeal to your audience. If you wish to have a specific group join, then find out that group's interest and try to appeal to them.
Storing your Work
You always want to have a backup of your RPG stored on your computer, just in case something happens to it on the forum. So its best to write an RPG in either Microsoft Word (you can also spell check) or any other word processor. This way you will be able to plan it out and edit it to your liking. It gives you more space to think and more freedom with what you are doing. Plan out your whole story, the places and people that characters will meet and ineract with, and their personalities. Its all up to you, which is why RPGing is so fun.
Signing Up
Before we can start our RPG we need to have a sign-up. So that people can create their characters to play in the RPGs. They need to have the following details:
-Names
People often use their own names in RPGs, but lets go outside of that. Picking a name can be fun, easy, or hard. Depending on where things take place, is how you shoud pick a name. If we were in Japan, you would have a name like "Sanosuke Sono" or "Sazika-Lee" you know to suit the story and place, depending on who your character is and their origin. If your character is from Ireland then they would have an Irish name like Joe, even if they are in an African country or a deserted island. If your RPG is set in Ancient Times, then find out the names from that time, and choose one that you think suits you or come up with your own. If you set your RPG in a fantasy world, then use those come up with a good name for those times like "Artemis" or "Lerogas"
Don't use famous names. Like naming your trainer Ash or Satoshi -_-
-Gender
To pick your own gender is best, but if you think that you can play the other gender well then go ahead, but most people choose their own gender. Be aware of the line that seperates the two, and their differences. Women tend to be emotional, while men are more visual. Men tend to be physical and women tend to be verbal. If you're a little boy, then act as little boys do, which is rough and mischevious. If you're a little girl, then act as they so, which is softer and more compassionate Note, this is in general to both genders, I know it may not always be the case, but they do have different psyches and ways of thinking and acting, and its better to go by these rules.
-Age
When you pick your characters age, make sure that you are capable of acting that age. If your character is a 13 year old girl then he should act as such. A 13 year old girl is on the brink of puberty, and tends to be very emotional. A 12 year old boy isn't very mature, so he can't handle serious issue like an adult can (such as death or rape). A 40-50 year old tends to be serious and has more wisdom because of all of their years of experience.
-Looks
What does your character look like? We don't have a piture of them, so go ahead and paint a picture for us, by using your words. What is their eye color? How tall are they? What is their race/species? What are some of their distinguishing features? You will need to tell us all of this, describe their hair color, is their hair long or short? Tell us, make us see them. Are they tall, giant, or short? Give use meaurements like "6'4" or "3'5" or 165cm. Are they muscular, skinny, fat? You don't have to just say skinny or fat, you can just say 'heavy-built' or 'lanky'. Do they have sharp teeth? Are they half-human half-beast? Are they beautiful appealing to the eye? Or do they scare off people by their ugliness? Then describe them as so, and give them those features. Also, what are they wearing? Not just jeans and a T-shirt. set the clothes to the proper timeline. If you are in the 1940s then you wouldn't wear things like Gap or Levi, or if you're in ancient Roman times, you would dress how they dress. What is the color? Do they have a particular writing or pattern on their clothes that can identify them or stands out? What accessories do they carry? How do they look to other people? Are they intimidating or afable. Don't be exact and go into things like the stitches or tags o_O just give us a good description.
-Personality
Is your character smart, caring, tough, or antisocial? Describe what your character acts like, their likes and dislikes. Make sure that it matches with the rest of them (gender, age, looks). Does your character have a bad attitude and lashes out at others? Tell us, let us see who they are and how they act. You'll have to act out their personality. Don't just say-smart, unpopular, quiet- and leave it at that. There had to be more to that character. Make them believable, and play the role correctly.
-Origin/history
What's your character's background? Tell where they have been and where they have come from. What has happened in the past that would help us to see why they act the way they do or look like they do. Give us their background information.
